You may (probably not) remember !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from late August of last year while struggling to get estimates to have some concrete work done. Finally, after all this time, the end of my driveway was poured today.

Kinja'd!!!

Also creates a fun excuse to drive through the yard for a week

The last 18-ish feet of the driveway have been gravel/mud since I moved in, and when they repaved the road two years ago it also became a pretty significant drop from the road surface. It was also a huge pain to try to shovel snow off of in the winter. I assume they’ll do the cut lines when they come back for their pylon.

No more! Finally found a contractor who not only answers the phone, but also showed up (on time, even) to do the estimate, actually sent me the estimate, and did the work today. I’m pleased; unless anything changes, I expect to have these same guys re-do my garage floor next year, which is in really bad shape (heaved/settled/spalling).

After my next-door neighbors decided to be friendly and created a huge hole at the end of my (gravel) driveway trying to shovel it with a bobcat, I solved my snow problems by buying a Wrangler.

What did you write in it?

I put my initials in the side of it (as in where the mold was up against). I hate when people write on the surface of fresh concrete.

Ouch. I hope come spring they used said bobcat to fix the hole.

Nope, it’s still there. I like having it to discourage unwanted visitors.

Pulling in too fast  might also explain why I’ve had some bad luck with front-end parts on my Jeep.

The city water dept had to dig out my neighbor’s apron while making a repair, and then came back and poured a new apron. They quickly went out and wrote their names in the concrete. Seemed like they wrote extended family’s names as well as their dog’s name.

The next day, the city had filled in all the names with cement.  I laughed heartily.

Instead of the cement job, I’m eyeballing that car in the background...

Man I could really use a completely new driveway. It’s currently asphalt over concrete that’s settled a bit. It doesn’t look too terrible but it really pools near the house when it rains heavily. And considering one corner of the  back room added in the 70s has sunk at least an inch it’s a bit worrying.

I don’t know what the options are for aspha lt over concrete; I know settled concrete pads can be level ed (they pump stuff underneath) - I had it done on the part of my driveway nearest the house. May be worth looking into, especially for a room which is sinking.

I don’t think the corner sinking has gone too far recently - actually it’s where the addition joins the house. But I probably should have a foundation guy out some day.

Actually my front step has sunk about an inch since we moved in so that’s annoying.
